# How to check a supplier card's ABN in AccountRight

Look up the supplier card's ABN on ABN Lookup, then save it in AccountRight. Check the status is active, the name matches and the supplier is registered for GST.

Checking an ABN means confirming the number on an invoice is valid, active and, if GST is charged, registered for GST.

## Before you start

- Card File access

## The AccountRight way

Where to find it: Card File > Cards List > supplier card > Buying Details tab

1. Enter the ABN on the supplier card.
2. AccountRight checks it with the Australian Business Register when you are online.
3. A green icon means valid. A yellow icon means an issue. Hover for detail.
4. Turn on Warn if Supplier Does Not Have an ABN for Purchases Greater Than $75 Tax Exclusive in Setup > Preferences > Purchases.
5. Make sure you are connected to the internet when you enter the ABN. The check runs only then.
6. If the supplier's payments are reportable, also select Report Taxable Payments on the card and enter the ABN there.
7. If the supplier's own GST status should override the item or service tax code, use the Use Supplier's Tax Code option on the card.

## Limits in AccountRight

- The warning for a missing ABN comes up when you choose the supplier on a purchase. It does not check suppliers already on the cards list.
- AccountRight shows an icon for the ABN. It does not say, on the help page, that the icon shows GST registration.

## The Pulsify way

1. Forward the supplier's invoice to Pulsify.
2. Pulsify checks the ABN against the ABR. It flags an invalid ABN, a missing ABN and an ABN not registered for GST when the invoice charges GST.
3. It also flags an ABN that differs from the one on the supplier card record in AccountRight.
4. Fix the supplier card record or query the supplier card, then approve.

Pulsify connects to MYOB in one click. Approved bills are created in MYOB with the source file attached.

What Pulsify does not do here:

- If the ABN lookup is not available, Pulsify flags that it could not validate.

## Common mistakes

- Entering the ABN while offline, so AccountRight cannot check it with the Australian Business Register.
- Ignoring a yellow icon without hovering over it to read the detail.
- Choosing a supplier on a purchase and clicking past the missing ABN warning.
- Turning on contractor reporting but leaving the ABN off the card.
