# How to close the month in accounts payable in S/4HANA

In S/4HANA, enter and approve all supplier invoice records dated in the month, accrue goods received, reconcile the aged items to the ledger, then lock the period.

Closing the month in AP means making sure every bill for the month is entered, approved and coded and the payables balance ties out.

Where to find it: Manage Posting Periods (Fiori app)

1. Clear parked and blocked invoices.
2. Reconcile A/P to the G/L.
3. Open Manage Posting Periods, pick the posting period variant and set the periods open or closed.
4. Check the change log if needed.

## Limits in S/4HANA

- Authorisation groups can limit who posts into a period.
- The app can run scheduled jobs to open or close periods.
