# How to code a purchase invoice with mixed GST lines in Business Central

In Business Central, set the VAT posting group (GST) on each line of the purchase invoice. Use the GST code for taxable lines and the GST-free code for others, then check the GST total matches the invoice.

A mixed GST bill has some lines with GST and some without, such as taxable goods plus GST-free items. Each line needs its own GST code.

## Before you start

- Enable GST (Australia) turned on in General Ledger Setup
- VAT Posting Setup done

## The Business Central way

Where to find it: VAT Posting Setup and Purchase Invoices > Lines

1. In VAT Posting Setup create each combination of VAT Bus. Posting Group and VAT Prod. Posting Group with the GST rate and purchase VAT account.
2. Give each line the right VAT Prod. Posting Group, for example 10% GST or GST-free.
3. Check the GST totals and post.

## Limits in Business Central

- If the document total check is on and lines have different GST rates, you must key the GST amount yourself.

## Good to know in Business Central

- Set up GST posting before you run the BAS report.

## The Pulsify way

1. Forward the supplier's invoice to your Pulsify address or upload it. Pulsify reads every line and finds the vendor in Business Central.
2. Pulsify works out the GST rate for each line from what is printed and picks the matching VAT posting group (GST) in Business Central.
3. Check any line where the invoice is unclear. Change the VAT posting group (GST) and approve.
4. The purchase invoice is created in Business Central with the GST on each line.

Pulsify connects to Business Central. We set up the connection for you.

What Pulsify does not do here:

- If the invoice does not show GST by line, Pulsify uses past bills for that vendor. Check those lines yourself.

## Common mistakes

- Setting up GST posting after the BAS is due. Set it up before you run the BAS report.
- Leaving the standard rate on a GST-free line because the VAT Prod. Posting Group was not changed.
