# How to code a bill with mixed GST lines in MYOB Business

In MYOB Business, set the tax code on each line of the bill. Use the GST code for taxable lines and the GST-free code for others, then check the GST total matches the invoice.

A mixed GST bill has some lines with GST and some without, such as taxable goods plus GST-free items. Each line needs its own GST code.

## Before you start

- Purchases access
- Business registered for GST in GST settings

## The MYOB Business way

Where to find it: Purchases > Create bill, Tax code column

1. On each line check the Tax code. It comes from the account or item.
2. Use GST for normal 10% purchases and FRE for GST-free purchases.
3. Use CAP for capital purchases and INP for input taxed purchases.
4. Use GNR for a supplier with an ABN who is not registered for GST.
5. Use ABN for a supplier with no ABN (No ABN withholding) and N-T for no-tax items.
6. If your business is not registered for GST, set the default tax code on accounts and items to N-T.

## Limits in MYOB Business

- Default tax code follows the item or account, not your GST settings.

## Good to know in MYOB Business

- An Import Duty tax type exists for importers.

## The Pulsify way

1. Forward the supplier's invoice to your Pulsify address or upload it. Pulsify reads every line and finds the supplier in MYOB Business.
2. Pulsify works out the GST rate for each line from what is printed and picks the matching tax code in MYOB Business.
3. Check any line where the invoice is unclear. Change the tax code and approve.
4. The bill is created in MYOB Business with the GST on each line.

Pulsify connects to MYOB in one click. Approved bills are created in MYOB with the source file attached.

What Pulsify does not do here:

- If the invoice does not show GST by line, Pulsify uses past bills for that supplier. Check those lines yourself.

## Example in MYOB Business

Example Produce Co sends one invoice for cooking oil, vegetables and delivery. Amounts are Tax exclusive.

- Cooking oil: $480.00 (Tax code: GST, GST $48.00)
- Vegetables: $260.00 (Tax code: FRE)
- Delivery: $30.00 (Tax code: GST, GST $3.00)

Subtotal $770.00. GST $51.00 on $510.00 of taxable lines. Bill total $821.00. Check each tax code in the GST report before you lodge.

## Common mistakes

- Trusting the tax code that came from the account when the line is GST-free.
- Using GST for a supplier that is not registered for GST. That is the GNR code.

## Common questions

### Which MYOB Business tax code is for a GST-free purchase?

Use FRE for GST-free purchases and GST for normal 10% purchases.

### What are GNR and ABN used for?

Use GNR for a supplier with an ABN who is not registered for GST. Use ABN for a supplier with no ABN (No ABN withholding).

### What if my business is not registered for GST?

Set the default tax code on accounts and items to N-T. The default tax code follows the item or account, not your GST settings.

### Does Pulsify code GST by line?

Yes. Pulsify sets a GST code on each line from the rate printed on that line and matches it to a tax code in your ledger.
