# How to code one purchase invoice to several nominal codes in Sage 50

In Sage 50, add a line for each type of cost on the purchase invoice. Set a different nominal code and VAT code (T-code) on each line, then check the total matches the invoice.

Coding one bill to several accounts means each line of a supplier invoice goes to the expense or asset account that matches what was bought.

## Before you start

- Sage 50 Accounts (UK)

## The Sage 50 way

Where to find it: Suppliers > Batch invoice

1. Enter a line for each nominal code with its net amount and tax code.
2. Lines sharing the same account, date and reference group together as one invoice.
3. Check the batch total and Save.

## What to watch in Sage 50

- Sage 50 reads lines with the same account, date and Ref as one invoice. A different Ref on one line splits it off as a new invoice.
- Batch invoices and credits show the supplier's default N/C. You can overwrite it on each line.
- Enter the net amount and the tax code on every line.
- This guide applies to Sage 50 Accounts (UK). Other Sage 50 editions have different screens.

## The Pulsify way

1. Forward the supplier's invoice to your Pulsify address or upload it. Pulsify reads every line and finds the supplier in Sage 50.
2. Pulsify suggests an account for each line from past bills for that supplier. Each line gets its own account and VAT code (T-code).
3. Check the suggestions in Pulsify, change any that are wrong and approve.
4. The purchase invoice is created in Sage 50 with the right account on every line.

Pulsify connects to Sage 50. We set up the connection for you.

What Pulsify does not do here:

- Pulsify can only pick from the accounts that exist in Sage 50.

## Example in Sage 50

Example Trade Supplies sends one purchase invoice for stock, tools and delivery. The bookkeeper uses Suppliers > Batch invoice and gives every line the same Ref, date and supplier account.

- Building stock, 50 bags: £1,000.00 (Nominal code for materials, with its tax code)
- Cordless drill: £300.00 (Nominal code for small tools, with its tax code)
- Delivery: £60.00 (Nominal code for carriage, with its tax code)

Three lines make one invoice because the account, date and Ref match. The batch total is £1,360.00 before VAT. Check the total and press Save.

## Common mistakes

- Using different Ref values on lines meant for one invoice, so they become separate invoices.
- Leaving the supplier's default N/C on a line that belongs elsewhere.
