# How to job cost purchase invoice records in Business Central

In Business Central, create each project, tag each purchase invoice line with the project using dimensions and run a cost-by-project report each month.

Job costing supplier bills means tagging each bill line to a job so you can see cost against budget for every job.

## Before you start

- Projects set up

## The Business Central way

Where to find it: Purchase lines with Project No. and Project Task No.

1. Set up the project and tasks.
2. On the purchase line enter the Project No. and Task No. (or create purchase orders from the project).
3. Post. The cost is recorded as project usage when the usage link is on.

## Limits in Business Central

- Project status must be Open and Apply Usage Link must be on.

## Good to know in Business Central

- Project G/L Journal records purchases that need no stock movement.

## The Pulsify way

1. Forward the supplier's invoice to Pulsify. Pulsify reads every row as its own line.
2. Review each line's account and set the job where it applies.
3. Route bills to the person who knows the job, using approval rules.
4. Approve. The purchase invoice is created in Business Central with each line.

Pulsify connects to Business Central. We set up the connection for you.

What Pulsify does not do here:

- Pulsify does not split lines by percentage.
- Job reports are run in Business Central.

## Example in Business Central

Example Concrete Supplies sends one purchase invoice for $2,200 including GST. Both lines go to one open project with Apply Usage Link on.

- Concrete for footings: $1,500.00 (Project: EXPROJ-20, Task No.: FOOTINGS)
- Pump hire for slab: $500.00 (Project: EXPROJ-20, Task No.: SLAB)

Both lines post as project usage on EXPROJ-20: $1,500 against FOOTINGS and $500 against SLAB, $2,000 before GST.

## Common mistakes

- Posting to a project that is not Open.
- Leaving Apply Usage Link off, so the cost is not recorded as project usage.
