# How to put a disputed bill on hold in Xero

Xero Central does not describe a dispute or hold status for bills. Leave the bill in Draft or Awaiting approval, add a note with the reason and set a planned payment date to track it.

Putting a disputed bill on hold means stopping it from being paid while you sort out the problem with the supplier.

## Before you start

- A role that can edit bills

## The Xero way

Where to find it: Purchases > Bills

1. Leave the bill in Draft or Awaiting approval so it is not in the Awaiting payment list.
2. Click Add Note on the bill with the reason.
3. Set a planned payment date on the bill to track when you intend to pay.
4. Create a credit note when the supplier agrees to credit.

## Limits in Xero

- Xero Central does not describe a dispute or hold status for bills.

## Good to know in Xero

- The Planned Date is your own payment date, not the supplier's due date.

## The Pulsify way

1. Forward the invoice to Pulsify. It flags price and quantity differences against the PO and possible duplicates.
2. If you disagree with the bill, reject it with a reason. The reason is saved with the bill.
3. When the corrected invoice or credit note arrives, forward it and approve it.

Pulsify connects to Xero in one click. Approved bills are created in Xero with the source file attached.

What Pulsify does not do here:

- Pulsify does not have a dispute status or a hold on payment.
- Payment runs happen in Xero.

## Common mistakes

- Approving the disputed bill. It then joins the Awaiting payment list.
- Expecting the planned date to stop a payment. It only records your intended date.
