# How to set a default nominal code for each supplier in Sage 50

In Sage 50, open the supplier record and set a default nominal code and VAT code (T-code). New purchase invoice lines will start with those and you can change any line.

A default account is the expense account a supplier's bills are coded to unless someone changes it. It saves time on repeat suppliers.

## Before you start

- Sage 50 Accounts (UK)

## The Sage 50 way

Where to find it: Suppliers > supplier record

1. Open the supplier record.
2. Set the default N/C and Dept.
3. Batch invoices and credits show those defaults, which you can overwrite.

## The Pulsify way

1. Forward the supplier's invoice to your Pulsify address or upload it. Pulsify reads every line and finds the supplier in Sage 50.
2. Pulsify suggests an account for each line from how that supplier was coded on past bills in Sage 50.
3. Correct a suggestion when it is wrong. Later bills for that supplier follow the pattern.
4. Approve. The purchase invoice is created in Sage 50.

Pulsify connects to Sage 50. We set up the connection for you.

What Pulsify does not do here:

- There is no setting in Pulsify to fix a default account for a supplier. It learns from past bills.
- A default set on the supplier in Sage 50 stays in Sage 50.

## Common mistakes

- Leaving the default N/C on a supplier whose invoices go to different codes.
- Expecting a changed default to fix invoices already posted.

## Common questions

### What defaults can a supplier record hold?

The default N/C and Dept, plus terms. Batch invoices and credits show them and you can overwrite them.

### Does changing a default change posted invoices?

No. The default fills in on new batch invoices and credits. A posted transaction is changed through Transactions > Edit, one at a time.

### Where do I set the default?

Open the supplier record and set the default N/C and Dept.

### Does Pulsify let me set a default account?

Not as a setting. Pulsify learns each supplier's coding from past bills in your accounting system and suggests an account for every line.
