# How to set a price tolerance on purchase order matching in Sage X3

In Sage X3, decide how far a purchase invoice line may differ from the purchase order before a person must look at it. Set that limit where Sage X3 allows one and name who can pass a difference.

A price tolerance is the gap between the PO price and the invoice price that you accept without a query.

## Before you start

- Sage X3 Purchasing
- Setup rights

## The Sage X3 way

Where to find it: Setup > Purchasing > Matching tolerance

1. Go to Setup > Purchasing > Matching tolerance and create a code (up to 5 characters).
2. Set the Unit of measure and Currency used for the match.
3. On the Receipts tab set Quantity shortage, Quantity exceeded, Early receipt and Late receipt controls with a percentage or quantity and an action (Warning or Blocking).
4. On the Invoices tab set the quantity and price or amount tolerances the same way.
5. Assign the code to the supplier, the product or the supplier/product pair. It defaults onto the order line.

## Limits in Sage X3

- Default order: supplier/product pair, then product, then supplier.
- Blocking can be overridden in invoices with security rights but not in receipts.

## Good to know in Sage X3

- A blocked invoice is released from the right panel.

## Common mistakes

- Setting Blocking on receipts when you wanted users to be able to override it.
- Creating a code but not assigning it to the supplier or product.

## Common questions

### What can the tolerance cover?

On the Receipts tab: Quantity shortage, Quantity exceeded, Early receipt and Late receipt. On the Invoices tab: quantity and price or amount, each with a percentage or quantity.

### Which code does the order use?

The default order is supplier/product pair, then product, then supplier. The code defaults onto the order line.

### What are the two actions?

Warning or Blocking. Blocking can be overridden in invoices with security rights but not in receipts.

### Can I set a tolerance in Pulsify?

No. Pulsify matches to within 1 cent and shows any bigger difference as a flag. Your approver decides.
