# How to split a vendor invoice across financial dimensions in Dynamics 365 Finance

In Dynamics 365 Finance, add one line per project or financial dimension on the vendor invoice, tag each line with financial dimensions and check the lines add up to the invoice total.

Splitting a bill across jobs or cost centres means giving each line of one supplier invoice its own job, department or project so costs land where they belong. In Dynamics 365 Finance you do it with financial dimensions.

## Before you start

- Financial dimensions set up

## The Dynamics 365 Finance way

Where to find it: Vendor invoice line > Financial dimensions and Accounting distributions

1. Open the invoice line and the accounting distribution.
2. Use Split to divide the amount by percentage, amount or quantity.
3. Set the main account and dimensions on each part.
4. Post.

## Limits in Dynamics 365 Finance

- After posting, distributions cannot be changed.

## Good to know in Dynamics 365 Finance

- Distribute equally spreads an amount evenly.
- Without a purchase order, line dimensions merge from dimension link, invoice header and item. The order is dimension link first, then header, then item.

## The Pulsify way

1. Forward the supplier's invoice to your Pulsify address. Pulsify reads every row as its own line.
2. Review each line and set its account. Line-item coding learns from how that vendor was coded before.
3. Approve. The vendor invoice is created in Dynamics 365 Finance with one line per row.

Pulsify connects to Dynamics 365 Finance. We set up the connection for you.

What Pulsify does not do here:

- Pulsify does not split a line by percentage. A shared cost needs separate lines with set amounts.
- Tagging a line to financial dimensions is done in Dynamics 365 Finance unless the line already carries it.

## Example in Dynamics 365 Finance

Example Timber Supplies sends a vendor invoice for $4,400.00 including GST. The net amount is $4,000.00 on one invoice line, split by percentage across two financial dimension values for Site A and Site B.

- Framing timber, Site A share: $2,400.00 (Split by percentage: 60%, dimension Site A)
- Framing timber, Site B share: $1,600.00 (Split by percentage: 40%, dimension Site B)

The distributions add up to $4,000.00 before GST. Check Accounting distributions before you Post, because they cannot be changed afterwards.

## Common mistakes

- Posting before checking the accounting distributions, which cannot be changed afterwards.
- Forgetting how dimensions merge on an invoice with no purchase order: dimension link first, then invoice header, then item.
