# How to split a bill across jobs in AccountRight

In AccountRight, add one line per job or cost centre on the bill, tag each line with jobs and cost centres and check the lines add up to the invoice total.

Splitting a bill across jobs or cost centres means giving each line of one supplier invoice its own job, department or project so costs land where they belong. In AccountRight you do it with jobs and cost centres.

## Before you start

- Jobs set up
- Cost centre tracking turned on if you want it (Setup > Preferences > System tab)

## The AccountRight way

Where to find it: Lists > Jobs; Lists > Cost Centres; Setup > Preferences > System tab

1. Create detail jobs under Lists > Jobs.
2. Enter one bill line per job. Pick the Job on each line.
3. If you use cost centres, pick one cost centre for the whole bill.
4. Run job reports or cost centre reports to see the cost.

## Limits in AccountRight

- Jobs are set per line. A cost centre is one per transaction, not per line.
- No percentage split.

## Good to know in AccountRight

- Header jobs total detail jobs. You cannot post to a header job.

## The Pulsify way

1. Forward the supplier's invoice to your Pulsify address. Pulsify reads every row as its own line.
2. Review each line and set its account. Line-item coding learns from how that supplier card was coded before.
3. Approve. The bill is created in AccountRight with one line per row.

Pulsify connects to MYOB in one click. Approved bills are created in MYOB with the source file attached.

What Pulsify does not do here:

- Pulsify does not split a line by percentage. A shared cost needs separate lines with set amounts.
- Tagging a line to jobs and cost centres is done in AccountRight unless the line already carries it.

## Example in AccountRight

Example Insulation Supplies sends one bill for two detail jobs. Amounts are ex GST. The delivery is shared, so it goes on two lines.

- Insulation, Job 501: $2,400.00 (Job: 501 Mill Street)
- Insulation, Job 502: $1,500.00 (Job: 502 Park Road)
- Delivery, Job 501 share: $90.00 (Job: 501 Mill Street)
- Delivery, Job 502 share: $60.00 (Job: 502 Park Road)

Subtotal $4,050.00 plus GST $405.00 equals $4,455.00. Job 501 carries $2,490.00 and Job 502 carries $1,560.00 before GST. If you use cost centres, pick one for the whole bill.

## Common mistakes

- Picking a header job on a bill line. Only detail jobs can be posted to.
- Expecting a different cost centre on each line. One cost centre covers the whole bill.

## Common questions

### Can AccountRight split a bill line by percentage?

No. There is no percentage split. A job is set per line, so enter one line per job.

### Can I use a cost centre on each line?

No. A cost centre is one per transaction, not per line. Jobs are set per line.

### Why can't I pick a job on a line?

Header jobs total detail jobs and you cannot post to a header job. Create detail jobs under Lists > Jobs.
