# How to split a bill across jobs in MYOB Business

In MYOB Business, add one line per job or job on the bill, tag each line with jobs and check the lines add up to the invoice total.

Splitting a bill across jobs or cost centres means giving each line of one supplier invoice its own job, department or project so costs land where they belong. In MYOB Business you do it with jobs.

## Before you start

- Jobs set up

## The MYOB Business way

Where to find it: Accounting > Jobs, then the Job column on each bill line

1. Create a job under Accounting > Jobs with a Job number and name.
2. On the bill, enter one line per job.
3. Pick the Job on each line.
4. Run a jobs report to see income and cost by job.

## Limits in MYOB Business

- One job per line. No percentage split.
- MYOB Business pages do not describe categories as a second dimension.

## Good to know in MYOB Business

- You can create a job on the fly from the Job dropdown.

## The Pulsify way

1. Forward the supplier's invoice to your Pulsify address. Pulsify reads every row as its own line.
2. Review each line and set its account. Line-item coding learns from how that supplier was coded before.
3. Approve. The bill is created in MYOB Business with one line per row.

Pulsify connects to MYOB in one click. Approved bills are created in MYOB with the source file attached.

What Pulsify does not do here:

- Pulsify does not split a line by percentage. A shared cost needs separate lines with set amounts.
- Tagging a line to jobs is done in MYOB Business unless the line already carries it.

## Example in MYOB Business

Example Roofing Supplies sends one invoice for deliveries to two jobs. Amounts are ex GST. The delivery is shared evenly, so it goes on two lines.

- Roof sheets, Job 301: $3,000.00 (Job: 301 Mill Street)
- Roof sheets, Job 302: $1,800.00 (Job: 302 Park Road)
- Delivery, Job 301 share: $150.00 (Job: 301 Mill Street)
- Delivery, Job 302 share: $150.00 (Job: 302 Park Road)

Subtotal $5,100.00 plus GST $510.00 equals $5,610.00. Job 301 carries $3,150.00 and Job 302 carries $1,950.00 before GST. Run a job report to check.

## Common mistakes

- Trying to pick two jobs on one line. Only one job can be chosen per line, so add a line for each job.
- Leaving the Job column empty on some lines, so those costs are missing from the job reports.

## Common questions

### Can MYOB Business split a bill line by percentage?

No. A line carries one job and there is no percentage split. Work out the dollar amount for each job and enter one line per job.

### How do I add a job?

Go to Accounting > Jobs and create a job with a Job number and name. You can also create a job on the fly from the Job dropdown.

### Can I use categories as well as jobs on a bill line?

MYOB Business pages do not describe categories as a second dimension. Jobs are how you split a bill line.
