# How to split a purchase invoice across nominal codes and departments in Sage 50

In Sage 50, add one line per project or cost centre or department on the purchase invoice, tag each line with nominal code, cost centre and department and check the lines add up to the invoice total.

Splitting a bill across jobs or cost centres means giving each line of one supplier invoice its own job, department or project so costs land where they belong. In Sage 50 you do it with nominal code, cost centre and department.

## Before you start

- Sage 50 Accounts (UK)

## The Sage 50 way

Where to find it: Suppliers > Batch invoice

1. Add one line per part of the cost on the Batch invoice window.
2. Give each line its N/C, Dept and (where used) Project Ref and Cost Code.
3. Use a different Ref if you want lines kept apart.

## Limits in Sage 50

- Splits are by lines you type. No percentage split on the window.
- Department is not in Sage 50 Accounts Essentials. Project Ref and Cost Code depend on edition.

## The Pulsify way

1. Forward the supplier's invoice to your Pulsify address. Pulsify reads every row as its own line.
2. Review each line and set its account. Line-item coding learns from how that supplier was coded before.
3. Approve. The purchase invoice is created in Sage 50 with one line per row.

Pulsify connects to Sage 50. We set up the connection for you.

What Pulsify does not do here:

- Pulsify does not split a line by percentage. A shared cost needs separate lines with set amounts.
- Tagging a line to nominal code, cost centre and department is done in Sage 50 unless the line already carries it.

## Common mistakes

- Using Dept on an edition without it. It is not in Sage 50 Accounts Essentials.
- Expecting Project Ref and Cost Code in every edition, when they depend on edition.

## Common questions

### Can Sage 50 split a purchase invoice across departments?

Yes, by lines you type. Add one line per part of the cost on the Batch invoice window with its N/C and Dept. Department is not in Sage 50 Accounts Essentials.

### Can Sage 50 split by percentage?

No percentage split was found on the Batch invoice window. Splits are by lines you type, so work out the amounts first.

### How do I keep split lines apart?

Lines with the same account, date and reference group together as one invoice. Use a different Ref if you want lines kept apart.
