What is a PAYG Payment Summary?
A PAYG (Pay As You Go) payment summary - formerly known as a group certificate - is a document that summarises payments made to an employee and the tax withheld during a financial year. Since 1 July 2020, most employers report through Single Touch Payroll (STP) and are no longer required to issue payment summaries. However, some situations still require them, and employees may want a formatted document for their own records.
This generator creates a properly formatted payment summary document with all the fields required by the ATO: payer and payee details, gross payments, total tax withheld, allowances, deductions, reportable fringe benefits, reportable employer superannuation contributions, and lump sum payments.
When do you still need a PAYG payment summary?
Payment summaries may still be needed for closely held payees (directors and family members of small businesses not yet on STP), foreign employment income, or when an employee needs a formatted record for mortgage or rental applications.
What are lump sum payments?
- Lump Sum A: Back payments of salary/wages for prior years (taxed at marginal rates).
- Lump Sum B: Back payments where you weren't obliged to pay during the prior year.
- Lump Sum D: Tax-free component of genuine redundancy or early retirement scheme.
- Lump Sum E: Back payments of salary/wages arising from a return-to-work program.
