Checking a vendor's TIN means collecting their taxpayer identification number on a Form W-9 and making sure the name and number match, so your 1099 filings are right.
Before you start
- Sage 100 Contractor Accounts Payable
- A completed Form W-9 from the vendor
The Sage 100 Contractor way
Where to find it: 4-4 Vendors (Accounts Payable) > Federal Id# and Financial Information > 1099
- Get a Form W-9 from the vendor before you pay them.
- Open 4-4 Vendors (Accounts Payable) and enter the vendor TIN in the Federal Id# box. For a sole proprietor with no workforce this is the owner's social security number, and you enter the owner's name in the Owner box.
- Set the 1099 type under Financial Information. Choose 1-Nonemployee Compensation for a contractor, or 5-No 1099 if no 1099 is needed.
- Check the name and TIN against IRS records with IRS TIN Matching in e-Services if you are an authorised payer. Interactive matching takes up to 25 name and TIN pairs on screen. Bulk matching takes up to 100,000.
- Before you print the 1099, make sure the payee name matches the Federal Id# number.
