Short answer
- Make sure each job is set up in MYOB.
- Open a new bill and pick the supplier.
- Add one line per job with that job’s share of the cost.
- Pick the job on each line.
- Check the lines add up to the supplier’s total, then record.
Before you start
- Create the jobs first. You cannot pick a job that does not exist.
- Work out each job’s share in dollars. MYOB does not split one line by percentage.
- Have the supplier’s invoice open so you can check the total and the GST.
The manual way in MYOB
- Create each job under Lists > Jobs (AccountRight) or the jobs area of your MYOB Business file.
- Open the bill window from the Purchases area. Choose the supplier. Enter the supplier’s invoice number and date.
- On the first line, pick the account and the tax code. Type the first job’s share in the amount.
- Pick the job in the Job column on that line.
- Add a line for each other job. Use the same account and tax code if they match.
- Check the lines add up to the supplier’s total, including GST.
- Record the bill.
Limits to know:
- One line carries one job. Split the amount across lines.
- Community answers say a bill holds one category, so use jobs when you need a split.
- Entering many bills this way takes time. Every job needs its own line, every time.
The Pulsify way
Pulsify syncs your MYOB jobs and shows them in a Job column on each line.
- Forward the supplier invoice to your Pulsify address. Pulsify reads each printed row as a line and codes the account and GST on each.
- Open the bill in the review screen. Each line has a Job column.
- Pick the job on each line. To set one job on every line, use Bulk edit above the line items.
- Approve. Pulsify creates the bill in MYOB with the jobs on the lines.
Pulsify does not split one line by percentage across jobs. Each line carries one job.
Tracking pre-selection from supplier history does not fill a MYOB header job. Set the job on the lines yourself.
Worked example
Example Plumbing Supplies sends an invoice for $4,400 including GST. It covers pipe and fittings for three jobs.
| Line | Job | Amount incl. GST |
|---|---|---|
| Pipe and fittings | Kitchen reno, Smith St | $1,650.00 |
| Pipe and fittings | Bathroom, Lake Rd | $1,540.00 |
| Pipe and fittings | Deck, Park Ave | $1,210.00 |
The three lines add up to $4,400.00. Each line uses the same account and the GST code your file uses for taxable purchases.
Common mistakes
- Typing the full bill amount on every line. The lines must add up to the supplier’s total once.
- Leaving the job blank on one line. That cost then falls out of your job reports.
- Using a different tax code on lines that share a taxable supply.
Next step
Try an invoice and see how jobs show on your own bill. To connect MYOB, follow the connect Xero or MYOB guide. For how Pulsify codes each line, see automated line-item coding.
Common questions
Can I put one MYOB bill line on two jobs?
No. Use one line per job and divide the amount between them. MYOB Help for AccountEdge shows the same method for payments, with a $100 bill split into a $60 line and a $40 line for two jobs.
Can I split a bill across categories in MYOB?
A bill carries one category in the header, so it does not split the way jobs do. If you need a split, use jobs on the lines. Check this against your MYOB product, as it is based on community answers.
Does the old AccountEdge help apply to MYOB Business?
The idea is the same, but the screens differ. The one clear official page we found is for AccountEdge. Follow the steps below and check the menu names in your own file.
