Bulk changing account codes means moving many bills or lines from one account to another in one go, usually after finding a coding mistake.

The Sage 50 way

Where to find it: Transactions > Edit (one transaction at a time)

  1. Open the Transactions list and select the posted purchase invoice.
  2. Choose Edit and change the N/C (nominal code), Project Ref or Cost Code on the line.
  3. Save. Repeat for each transaction.

Limits in Sage 50

  • No bulk recode tool for posted purchase invoices found in Sage 50 Accounts (UK). A third-party Nominal Code Changer is mentioned by users.
  • Changes to the nominal account itself need a new account plus a journal.

Words Sage 50 uses

  • Nominal code. The UK name for a general ledger account.

The Pulsify way

  1. Fix the account in Pulsify before approval. Pulsify learns from corrections, so later bills for that supplier follow the new account.
  2. For bills already in Sage 50, make the change in Sage 50.

What Pulsify does not do here

  • Pulsify does not recode bills that are already in Sage 50.
  • Pulsify cannot edit locked periods. Use a journal in Sage 50.

Common mistakes

  • Editing a transaction when the fix needs a new nominal account plus a journal.
  • Using a third-party Nominal Code Changer without testing it first, since only users mention it.
