An aged payables report lists what you owe each supplier, grouped by how overdue each bill is. What is accounts payable?
The Sage 50 way
Where to find it: Reporting > More > Aged Creditors
- Go to Reporting then More then Aged Creditors.
- Choose the date and run.
- Run Aged Creditors with the criteria you will use for the control account check. A Sage 2023 webinar on reconciling aged reports says report criteria are the first thing to check, and to select Exc Later payments when you want a past date.
- Agree the Aged Creditors total to the Purchase Ledger Control account (default nominal code 2100 in the Irish school webinar example) for the same date.
Limits in Sage 50
- A Sage webinar lists the common causes of a difference: report criteria, data corruption, journals posted to the control account and allocation dates.
- Posting a journal straight to the Purchase Ledger Control account will make the aged report differ from the control balance.
Good to know in Sage 50
- The trial balance and balance sheet are date sensitive and work by calendar month, so use the same criteria when you compare.
- An FSSU webinar says suppliers should always be paid with the Supplier Payment function so payments allocate to invoices. An unallocated payment stays in the ledger and distorts the aged balances.
- Add reports to favourites with the star button to find them quickly each month.
Words Sage 50 uses

- Aged Creditors. The report that lists what you owe by how old it is.
Common mistakes
- Running Aged Creditors for the wrong date.
- Not comparing its total with the Purchase Ledger Control account.
