Common questions

Can I credit an invoice that is no longer in Accounts Payable?

Yes. The Credit note field wants the number of the invoice the credit is against. If it is gone from AP you can re-establish its details.

Can I credit an invoice that was released for payment?

No. A credit note cannot be posted against an invoice that has been released for payment, has a manual check posted or is on hold.

Are supplier credit notes approved like invoices?

Registered credit and debit notes are approved the same way as invoices, with the Approve invoice transaction and the matching operator activity.

Should a credit note go through approval?

Yes. It changes what you owe. The person who agreed the return or price fix is often the right approver.
