A mixed GST bill has some lines with GST and some without, such as taxable goods plus GST-free items. Each line needs its own GST code.
Before you start
- Purchases access
- Business registered for GST in GST settings
The MYOB Business way
Where to find it: Purchases > Create bill, Tax code column
- On each line check the Tax code. It comes from the account or item.
- Use GST for normal 10% purchases and FRE for GST-free purchases.
- Use CAP for capital purchases and INP for input taxed purchases.
- Use GNR for a supplier with an ABN who is not registered for GST.
- Use ABN for a supplier with no ABN (No ABN withholding) and N-T for no-tax items.
- If your business is not registered for GST, set the default tax code on accounts and items to N-T.
Limits in MYOB Business

Example in MYOB Business
Example Produce Co sends one invoice for cooking oil, vegetables and delivery. Amounts are Tax exclusive.
| Line | Amount | Tagged to |
|---|---|---|
| Cooking oil | $480.00 | Tax code: GST, GST $48.00 |
| Vegetables | $260.00 | Tax code: FRE |
| Delivery | $30.00 | Tax code: GST, GST $3.00 |
Subtotal $770.00. GST $51.00 on $510.00 of taxable lines. Bill total $821.00. Check each tax code in the GST report before you lodge.
Common mistakes
- Trusting the tax code that came from the account when the line is GST-free.
- Using GST for a supplier that is not registered for GST. That is the GNR code.
