A mixed GST bill has some lines with GST and some without, such as taxable goods plus GST-free items. Each line needs its own GST code.

The Sage X3 way
Where to find it: Common data > Taxes; Financials > Invoices > Purchase invoices
- Set up the Australia legislation GST rates and tax rules (see the Australia GST pages).
- Put a Tax rule on the supplier record (Tax rule field). It is the default on every document for that supplier.
- X3 crosses the tax rule with the tax level of each line to pick the tax code, then calculates tax per line.
- Enter the supplier tax total on the Management tab so X3 can compare it.
- Review the totals later in GST reporting periods, where the GST data is collected for the BAS.
Limits in Sage X3

The Pulsify way

- Pulsify works out the GST rate for each line from what is printed and picks the matching tax rule and tax rate in Sage X3.
- Check any line where the invoice is unclear. Change the tax rule and tax rate and approve.
- The purchase invoice is created in Sage X3 with the GST on each line.
Pulsify connects to Sage X3. We set up the connection for you.
What Pulsify does not do here
- If the invoice does not show GST by line, Pulsify uses past bills for that supplier. Check those lines yourself.
Common mistakes
- Leaving the Tax rule blank on the supplier record, so every document starts with the wrong default.
- Skipping the supplier tax total on the Management tab, so X3 cannot compare it.

Common questions
How does X3 pick the tax code for a line?
It crosses the tax rule on the supplier record with the tax level of each line to pick the tax code, then calculates tax per line.
Does X3 need the Australian set-up first?
Yes. Set up the Australia legislation GST rates and tax rules first.
How do I check the GST after entry?
Enter the supplier tax total on the Management tab so X3 can compare it. Then run the GST report to check the totals.
Does Pulsify code GST by line?
Yes. Pulsify sets a GST code on each line from the rate printed on that line and matches it to a tax code in your ledger.
