The Taxable payments annual report (TPAR) tells the ATO what you paid contractors in certain industries during the financial year.

Before you start

  • Reports access
  • Not Basics

The AccountRight way

Where to find it: Setup > Preferences > Reports & Forms tab; then Purchases command centre > Report Taxable Payments

  1. Go to Setup > Preferences, Reports & Forms tab, and tick I Report Taxable Payments Made to Contractors. Click OK. The Reportable Payment option now shows on Spend Money and purchase windows.
  2. In the Card File command centre click Cards List, open each contractor's supplier card, go to Buying Details and tick Report Taxable Payments. Choose whether to flag the supplier's existing transactions for the current financial year.
  3. On a purchase or Spend Money, tick Reportable Payment where the supplier card is not flagged.
  4. In the Purchases command centre click Report Taxable Payments to open the Taxable Payments Assistant. Choose the year and click Next. Add any company information that is missing.
  5. On the Review window click Review Your Transactions. Deselect anything that is not reportable and click Record.
  6. On the Create window click View Taxable Payments Report to see the Taxable Payments Annual Report (Detail). Click Create Taxable Payments File to save the TPAR file, named TPAR.C01 by default, then lodge it through the ATO Business Portal.

Limits in AccountRight

  • Spend Money and bills with payments received count. Not available in Basics.
  • Report services, including labour. Do not report payments for materials alone, but a purchase that has a service part should be reported.
  • A bill dated before 1 July and paid after it is not marked reportable by itself. In the Review window set Dated From and To to the earlier year, pick All in Transactions and Update, then tick those purchases.
  • Employee cards can no longer track taxable payments.

Good to know in AccountRight

  • Overseas supplier: put the overseas state and postcode in Suburb/Town/City, enter OTH in State and leave Postcode at 9999.
  • To flag many suppliers at once, export the cards with Co./Last Name and Report Taxable Payments, set the column to P (reportable) or N (not reportable) in Excel, then import with Update existing data. P also marks the current year's transactions reportable.
  • The report also sits at Reports > Index to Reports > Purchases > Payments > Taxable payments.

Common mistakes

  • Skipping the Reports & Forms preference, so the tick on supplier cards does nothing.
  • Not ticking Report Taxable Payments on a contractor's supplier card.
