Why it matters for manufacturers
- A supplier can invoice the wrong entity, which puts GST credits and cost in the wrong place.
- Group-wide suppliers such as steel and gas are bought on one agreement but billed to several plants.
For manufacturers in Kinetic
- Run plants as separate companies with a central pay company. A child company posts its invoice to the central pay parent through the Multi-Company process.
- Multi-company needs External Company Configuration, a choice of Global table fields and the Multi-Company Direct Server Process scheduled for each company with the Agent.
- The multi-company process moves data through the GLB and IM tables. Some transactions, such as intercompany GL entries, create multi-company transactions at once. Others, such as part description updates, are picked up when the process next runs.
- Move configurators and lookup tables between plant companies with import and export, not the multi-company process.
Rules that matter for manufacturers in Kinetic
- Each entity claims GST only on its own purchases. Check the tax rate or tax type on an intercompany invoice, because tax defaults on intercompany invoices have caused trouble across countries.
- Each entity needs the supplier's ABN on its own record. Kinetic shares no supplier list between companies unless you set the Global table fields.
- A group that is one economic entity for GST can register as a GST group. Ask your adviser before you rely on it. Intercompany lines are a common error.
What Kinetic does on its own
Kinetic runs several companies in one database or in different databases. Intercompany trading uses the Multi-Company Direct Server Process, which sends an AR invoice in the selling company as an AP invoice in the buying company. It covers intercompany sales order and PO transactions.
A Multi-Company validation error says Intercompany Receiving must be completed before the AP invoice.

Example
Example Alloys Pty Ltd ships aluminium to Plant 1 in Sydney and sells to Plant 2 in Brisbane through the group's central buying company. Each plant is its own company in Kinetic with a central pay company above it.
| Line | Amount | What the check finds |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminium for Plant 1, invoiced in the Sydney company | $18,600.00 | Posts to the central pay company through the Multi-Company process |
| Aluminium for Plant 2, invoiced in the Brisbane company | $12,400.00 | Same route. Paid by the central pay company |
| Intercompany AP invoice before intercompany receiving | $5,200.00 | Rejected with the validation error that Intercompany Receiving must be completed first |
Both plants post to the central company and the parent pays once. The intercompany invoice waits for receiving and posts on the next run.
Common mistakes for manufacturers in Kinetic
- Leaving the Multi-Company Direct Server Process off the Agent schedule for a plant.
- Moving configurators and lookup tables with the multi-company process instead of import and export.
- Expecting a change to post at once. Some transactions are picked up when the process next runs.

Common questions
Can Kinetic pay several plants from one central company?
Yes, with a central pay company. Each child company posts its invoice to the parent through the Multi-Company process, and the parent pays. Test the setup with a few plants before month end.
How should a manufacturer handle a bill that covers two entities?
Split the bill by line to each entity, with the supplier ABN on file for both. Each entity claims GST on its own part, and the split should match the supply agreement.
Why does the AP invoice fail?
A common error says Intercompany Receiving must be completed before the AP invoice.
