Why it matters for manufacturers
- A supplier can invoice the wrong entity, which puts GST credits and cost in the wrong place.
- Group-wide suppliers such as steel and gas are bought on one agreement but billed to several plants.
For manufacturers in NetSuite
- With OneWorld and the Centralized Purchasing and Billing feature, one purchase order can be received in any subsidiary and location. Bills and payments are made centrally from the originating subsidiary. Variance journals post under the receiving subsidiary.
- Oracle states that this feature does not support drop shipments or special orders.
- With Automated Intercompany Management, a plant can raise an intercompany purchase order and generate the intercompany sales order from it. The pair is linked (Intercompany Status Linked) and the amounts are eliminated at period close once billed.
- Outsourced work orders are grouped into purchase orders by vendor and subsidiary, so each entity gets its own PO.
What NetSuite does on its own
NetSuite OneWorld runs several subsidiaries in one account. A vendor can have a primary subsidiary and any number of secondary subsidiaries, and transactions can use the subsidiaries assigned to the vendor. Elimination subsidiaries hold intercompany journals that reverse transactions between subsidiaries.
- OneWorld is a separate edition.
Oracle says there is no limit on secondary subsidiaries. A credit limit can be set for the primary and each secondary subsidiary on the vendor.

Example
Example Gas Supplies sends one invoice covering bottled gas for Plant 1 in Sydney and Plant 2 in Brisbane, which are separate entities.
| Line | Amount | What the check finds |
|---|---|---|
| Gas cylinders, Plant 1 Sydney | $3,200.00 | Bill to Example Manufacturing East Pty Ltd |
| Gas cylinders, Plant 2 Brisbane | $2,100.00 | Bill to Example Manufacturing North Pty Ltd |
| Cylinder rental, shared | $300.00 | Split by agreed ratio |
Each plant's cost is coded to its own entity and shared rental is split by the agreed ratio. Each entity claims only its own GST.
Common mistakes
- Entering the whole invoice in one entity and fixing it later with an intercompany journal.
- Using different supplier names for the same supplier in each entity, so group spend cannot be added up.

Common questions
Can one NetSuite purchase order serve several plants?
On OneWorld with Centralized Purchasing and Billing, yes. One PO can be received in any subsidiary and location and billed centrally. Drop shipments and special orders are not supported with that feature. For stock moved between your own entities use intercompany purchase orders.
How should a manufacturer handle a bill that covers two entities?
Split the bill by line to each entity, with the supplier ABN on file for both. Each entity claims GST on its own part, and the split should match the supply agreement.
Can one vendor serve several subsidiaries?
Yes. Give the vendor a primary subsidiary and add secondary ones. Oracle says transactions are generally tied to the primary subsidiary but can use any secondary one in the procure-to-pay flow.
