A default account is the expense account a supplier's bills are coded to unless someone changes it. It saves time on repeat suppliers. What is chart of accounts?
Before you start
- Sage 200 Purchase Ledger
The Sage 200 way
Where to find it: Suppliers > Suppliers List > account details
- Open the supplier account.
- Set the default Nominal Code, VAT Rate, discount percent and discount days.
- New invoices show these defaults, which can be overridden.
Limits in Sage 200
- The defaults are one nominal code and one VAT rate per supplier.
Words Sage 200 uses
- Nominal code. The general ledger account number.
The Pulsify way
- Forward the supplier's invoice to your Pulsify address or upload it. Pulsify reads every line and finds the supplier in Sage 200.
- Pulsify suggests an account for each line from how that supplier was coded on past bills in Sage 200.
- Correct a suggestion when it is wrong. Later bills for that supplier follow the pattern.
- Approve. The purchase invoice is created in Sage 200.
Pulsify connects to Sage 200. We set up the connection for you.
What Pulsify does not do here
- There is no setting in Pulsify to fix a default account for a supplier. It learns from past bills.
- A default set on the supplier in Sage 200 stays in Sage 200.
Common mistakes
- Leaving a default VAT rate that suits only some of a supplier's goods.
- Expecting a new default to alter invoices already posted.

Common questions
What defaults can I set on a supplier account?
The default Nominal Code, VAT Rate, discount percent and discount days. New invoices show these and you can override them.
Is the default only one code?
Yes. The defaults are one nominal code and one VAT rate per supplier, so a mixed supplier needs lines changed on the invoice.
Does changing a default change posted invoices?
No. The defaults show on new invoices. A posted invoice is corrected with Correct Transactions, one at a time.
Does Pulsify let me set a default account?
Not as a setting. Pulsify learns each supplier's coding from past bills in your accounting system and suggests an account for every line.
