Line item coding means giving every line on a supplier bill its own G/L account, tax code and tracking, not one code for the whole bill.
What S/4HANA does on its own
Each line of a supplier invoice carries its own account assignment. For an invoice with no PO you add G/L account items with an account, amount, tax code and an accounting object such as a cost centre, WBS element or order. For a PO invoice the accounts come from the PO.
What you need in S/4HANA
- Authorisation for Manage Supplier Invoices (F0859) or Enter Invoice (MIRO)
Setting it up in S/4HANA
Where to find it: Manage Supplier Invoices (F0859) > Create Supplier Invoice > G/L Account Items > Add
- Open Create Supplier Invoice and fill in the General Information.
- In G/L Account Items choose Add for each account.
- Enter the G/L account, Amount, Tax Code and an accounting object on each item.
- Choose Check or Simulate to see the account movements.
- Choose Post, or Hold if someone else will finish it.
Good to know in S/4HANA
- Fields such as Tax Code and cost centre show only if the G/L account master allows them.
- The supplier master does not hold a default expense account for non-PO invoices. The reconciliation account and payment terms sit there.
- Posted invoice lines cannot be edited for account in most cases. The usual fix is to reverse and post again.

What Pulsify adds
- Pulsify reads each invoice into individual line items.
- Each line gets its own account and its own tax code.
- The account comes from how that supplier's past bills were coded. The tax code comes from the rate printed on the line.
- You check every value on an editable review screen before approval.
- Bulk edit sets the account and tracking on every line of one invoice, or on many invoices at once.

What Pulsify does not do
- Pulsify aims for 99% accuracy on account and tax coding per line. You still review before approval.
- Splits are by line amount. There are no percentage splits.

Common questions
Can I split one S/4HANA supplier invoice over several cost centres?
Yes. Add one G/L account item for each split and give each item its own amount, tax code and accounting object such as a cost centre. The invoice posts when the items add up to the gross amount.
Does S/4HANA remember the expense account for a supplier?
The supplier master holds the reconciliation account and payment terms. It does not hold a default expense account for non-PO invoices. For repeat invoices SAP offers a recurring entry or an invoice template.
How do I fix a wrong account after posting?
Posted lines cannot be edited for account in most cases. Reverse the invoice and post it again with the right account. Some releases offer a reassignment app for cost centre changes.
Do I need to set up coding rules?
No. Pulsify learns from how your team coded past invoices for each supplier. A coding note in the forwarding email is followed first.
